Richard E. Mistler, Sc.D.

Biography

Dr. Richard E. Mistler received his Doctor of Science in Ceramics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1967. He also holds a Master of Metallurgical Engineering degree from Renssalear Polytechnic Institute and a Bachelor of Science degree in Ceramic Engineering from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University.

Dr. Mistler is presently Owner and President of Richard E. Mistler, Inc., a consulting and research firm involved in the technical ceramics field located in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.

Prior to starting his own business in 1985, he held several positions in industry. These included the following: from 1982 through December, 1984 he was Vice President of Research & Development for American Oil & Supply International. From June, 1978 through May, 1982 he was Director of Research and Development and Vice President of Frenchtown American Corporation. From June, 1969 through May, 1978 Dr. Mistler was Research Leader, Ceramic Processes and Chemical Processes at the Western Electric Company's Engineering Research Center in Princeton, New Jersey.

Under his direction as Research Leader at Western Electric Company, Dr. Mistler's group developed the ERC-105 process for the manufacture of the highest quality alumina thin film substrate in the world. He has published several papers on the process and on the general topic of tape cast ceramics.

Dr. Mistler's expertise lies in the development and control of ceramic processing technology. He has published over 50 papers on his work during his 30+ years of experience. He has also taught a portion of a short course relating to tape casting as a ceramic fabrication process at the annual meeting of the American Ceramic Society for the past ten years.

Dr. Mistler is a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society and a member of the National Institute of Ceramic Engineers. As a Chairman of the Ceramic Processing Advisory Committee for the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at M.I.T. he was instrumental in establishing their University-Industrial Liason program in Ceramics Processing.

Dr. Mistler received an appointment as a Consultant Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, P.R. China at a ceramony held at the university on May 12, 2005.
